There’s a new COVID-19 variant called ‘Eris,’ and it’s spreading quickly in the UK. It came from the Omicron variant and is now making up one in seven of the new COVID-19 cases in the country, according to the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA).

They first noticed this variant on July 3, 2023, when there were more cases not only in the UK but also in other parts of the world, especially in Asia. On July 31, 2023, it was officially recognized as a variant because of the increasing number of cases.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) is keeping a close eye on this variant to understand how it spreads and affects people.

As of now, there’s no evidence to suggest that Eris is more dangerous than other variants. However, it’s responsible for about 14.6% of all COVID-19 cases in the UK. The UKHSA is closely monitoring the situation and advises everyone to keep following safety measures like washing hands regularly and avoiding close contact with others if they have respiratory symptoms.
